Black sabbath self titled album no logo3/16/2024 Iommi kept the Sabs flag flying with various line-ups, until a 2011 reformation of the original quartet (at least, ‘original’ until Ward opted out) and the 2013 release of a gnarly comeback album, 13, put a cap on one of the most influential catalogues in heavy music. Resolutely anti-pop, reviled by the critics, and prone to endless bouts of self-destruction, the original line-up lasted until late 1978 when Ozzy was unceremoniously fired and replaced by Ronnie James Dio. This decision – and their use of a Boris Karloff 1930s movie title as their moniker – would help forge Sabbath’s fearsome reputation, while their sound would define the metal genre. Black shiny inner sleeve with the cross and poem on one and the band name on the other side. “Tony said, ‘Isn’t it weird – people pay money to see horror films and get scared. I own a version on yellow vinyl, with simple black and white swirl labels stating 'Side A' / 'Side B', without song titles and a non-gatefold, slightly out of focus sleeve with a pink 'Vertigo' logo in the upper right corner on the front. The lack of frills and contrivance worked to advantage, as the group’s riff-driven, blues-based hard rock came through loud and clear on The Wizard, N.I.B., Warning. “We rehearsed across the road from a movie theatre which used to show horror films,” recalled Ozzy. Black Sabbath recorded its self-titled first album in a single session in November 1969, setting up their gear in a small studio and running through their live set. Growing from blues roots, Black Sabbath forged a sound around Iommi’s blackened riffs, Osbourne’s post-Lennon wail, and the tightly-locked interplay of Ward and Butler, the bassist penning lyrics that drew on reality as much as on his initial interest in spirituality and the band’s developing fright-night aesthetic. “I tried beads and a kaftan but they looked shit on me,” remarked Osbourne several decades after the band’s inception in Aston, Birmingham, in 1968. If the prevalent mood of the mid-’60s was one of peace, love and optimism no one told the four-piece of frontman Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward. Ozzy and Iommi notably reunited recently, first on two songs off the singer's new solo album, Patient Number 9, and then onstage at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where they played Sabbath's "Paranoid. No band sounded the death knell of hippy-dom as gloriously as Black Sabbath. We'd gone right back past the point where we took charge, back to when someone else had full control of our recording. But I'll say, wasn't recorded the way Black Sabbath recorded records. I'm not saying that one day we might not all go in a room and come up with the perfect Black Sabbath album. The album received 4x Platinum certification by RIAA. Released in 1970, the album contains the band’s hit songs, War Pigs, the self-titled Paranoid, Iron Man, Planet Caravan, and Hand of Doom. I havent been able to confirm source, but if its like all the other Fontana titles released locally at the same time, then it will be an Australian cut made at EMI (would love. "The only thing I really regret, to be honest, is that Bill Ward didn't play on the album," the singer admitted. Paranoid is the highest-selling Black Sabbath album as of 2023 with 33.1 million sales. THE FIRST RELEASE of Black Sabbath (self titled) in Australia came on yellow Fontana labels. (Rage Against the Machine's Brad Wilk drummed on the album Ozzy's Tommy Clufetos, on the tour.) I think it's time." His only regret? That, due to a contractual issue, OG drummer Bill Ward didn't play on 13 or join the band on their farewell tour. As for whether Sabbath might ever reunite again, Ozzy said, "I would like to say it's completely done.
